About CST
What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a type of hands-on bodywork that helps to release restrictions in the body and to regulate the nervous system. Some restrictions are due to physical injuries, overuse, or illness. Some restrictions can happen if, for some reason, we don't have the ability to deal with an emotion when it happens. Emotions are molecules, and our bodies process them like any other molecule. We need water and time and healthy body systems to let them move through our bodies and be released. If we don’t have what we need for processing, the emotions can get stuck and cause restrictions. These restrictions act like any other physical restriction in the body, and over time can cause pain and a loss of function. CST can help both with processing these stored emotions, and with helping the body release them. This can help with overall physical and mental health and function in a number of ways;
Possible effects include:
-
Decreased pain
-
Decreased anxiety
-
Better sleep
-
Improved healing
-
Calming of the nervous system
-
Improved mental focus and clarity
During a CST session, the therapist will place their hands lightly on different locations of your body, and will usually leave them in place for a few minutes. Your therapist will usually ask you if you are comfortable with where they are going to place their hands before doing so, but please feel free to let them know if you are uncomfortable with anything. Everyone has slightly different experiences when receiving CST; sometimes people have sensations of heat releasing, or movement or shifts within their bodies, sometimes people feel nothing. CST is usually very relaxing, and often clients will go to sleep for part or all of the session.
Your CST session will always be tailored to what you would like help with. Your therapist will discuss this with you at the beginning of every session.
